In Celebration of
A Napa Valley weekend in Jordan's honor — six of us, two little ones, September 10–13.
Thursday is the hot one. Low-90s up in Calistoga — right when you're outdoors at Castello and on the Sterling gondola (it runs fine below 100°, but confirm on the day). Hydrate the kids, hats and shade, and keep the two-month-old out of direct sun. Friday through Sunday settle into the high-70s to low-80s with cool 50s mornings, so pack layers for the early starts and the 4:30 dinners. Dry all weekend.
Land, check in, and head up-valley — the hot day, so keep the little ones shaded and watered.
Wheels down at 9:30. Call ahead to request early check-in so you can get into a room with the infant rather than just parking the bags, then point the cars north toward Calistoga.
Penciled in ahead of the tasting. An easy, family-welcoming room with a patio — a cool spot to land and feed the kids before the castle, minutes from Castello. Reserve for the 8-top and ask for high chairs.
Your booked tasting inside a true Tuscan castle — moat, drawbridge, towers, and grape-juice tastings for the little ones. The showstopper of the trip for the two-year-old.
Right next door on Dunaweal Lane, so no real driving. The aerial gondola up to the hilltop is a genuine kid thrill, and they hand little ones a backpack with snacks and juice. Do the self-guided Signature tour to move at the kids' pace. Keep it to about an hour.
Heat note: the gondola closes above 100°F — fine at a forecast 92°, but confirm it's running when you arrive.
Back on the property for your 5:00 reservation — gastro-pub plates plus bowling to keep the kids busy, and zero driving to close out a travel day.
Everything within five minutes on Main Street — then a nap buffer before an early dinner.
A relaxed on-site breakfast, then aim to be on the road by 9:30 for the ~30-minute run up to St. Helena.
The oldest continuously operating winery in Napa, with fairy-tale grounds. Crucial: book the Sip & Stroll (Fri–Mon) or self-guided Discover Beringer — the regular seated tastings are 21+. You wander the historic gardens while the adults taste; reviewers call it stroller-friendly, with a changing table on-site.
No reservation needed — a walk-in deli with picnic grounds where the two-year-old can roam while the adults taste. A low-key middle stop before lunch.
Your winery lunch: a Long Meadow Ranch farmhouse in a restored barn with gardens, a patio, and a smoker parked out front the toddler will love watching. Family-welcoming with a proper kids' menu. Reserve directly at (707) 963-4555 — they're not on OpenTable.
Wood-fired pizza and handmade pasta — the food the kids actually want — in a warm little room. It's small and popular, so the early 4:30 seating you've got is exactly right for the 8-top with two high chairs.
The ladies are at the spa through midday — keep the little ones close to base, then the group dinner.
Already handled. This anchors the morning on-property, which suits a two-month-old's nap-and-feed rhythm anyway.
Keep it easy while the spa runs: the pool, Crush's lanes, and the on-site Estate wineries and brewery so the dads can taste with the kids right there. Off-property? Oxbow Public Market downtown is a ~10-minute, stroller-friendly browse.
Something easy near base so the group can reconvene after the spa — the on-site Olive & Hay, or a graze through Oxbow Market. Ad Hoc later is an early, full dinner, so go light here.
The main event: the whole group around one table for Keller's nightly four-course, family-style menu — the most relaxed of his Yountville rooms. Your reservation flags the birthday, so a candle or dessert should find its way to Jordan. It's a set menu with no kids' menu, so bring a snack for the toddler, and ask which night is the famous buttermilk fried chicken.
One good brunch, then wheels up.
My pick for a getaway-day brunch: a garden the toddler can roam, an easy family-friendly Sunday service, and it's the closest option with no detour before you head out. Reserve the 8-top and request high chairs.
Alternative — Valley (Sonoma Plaza): your Bib Gourmand favorite, weekend brunch 11 AM–3 PM. Lovely, but ~35–40 min west in Sonoma — a real detour on departure day. Worth it only if your route home runs that way. Reserve; they hold a few patio tables for walk-ins.

Already locked: Castello (Thu 1:30), Crush (Thu 5:00), Ciccio (Fri 4:30), Ad Hoc (Sat 4:30), spa (Sat). Walk-in: V. Sattui, Saturday lunch.
Everywhere: request high chairs, and expect a phone call for the party of eight rather than an online slot.
